Live from Music Row Monday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed all-star panelist, Professor Carol Swain in studio to discuss her upcoming book signing event at Puffy Muffin Brentwood this Saturday and the lost faith in school boards and institutions once trusted.
Leahy: In studio, all-star panelist and good friend, Professor Carol Swain. Carol, you have been so busy. So many things to talk about today.
This coming Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.. You will be at Puffy Muffin in Brentwood, and you’ll do a book signing there. I think it’s fantastic.
Swain: Well, thank you. And Logos Books will be handling the sales. And I will give a presentation and will answer questions about Critical Race Theory. And I go through the strategies that are listed in the book.
Leahy: Of course, our family has close ties to the folks at Puffy Muffin. Great people. Linda is the owner there and her daughter is running it now, Christie. And they’re just the greatest people.

Carol, let me just get your reaction to something and let me shift gears a little bit from critical race theory because there’s a lot of stuff going on in critical race theory.
Swain: It’s going to be with us for a while, but I believe we can defeat it.
Leahy: Now on that topic, a little segue having to do with school boards’ mandating things. The woke school boards in Williamson County and Davidson County and Shelby County Tennessee are mandating masks for kids.
It’s K-12 in Davidson County, it’s K-6 or K-5 in Williamson County, even though we’ve talked about this many a time, and we’ve got a story coming out tomorrow. All of the medical evidence says there’s no medical clinical report that shows that wearing cloth masks has any efficacy in stopping the transmission of COVID-19.
It’s like, okay, so why are the school boards doing this? And now the more important question is speaker of the House Cam Sexton sent a letter to Governor Lee last week saying, hey, time to hold a special session so we can tell parents if your school board says you got to wear a mask, you don’t have to go to that school.
Or maybe we’ll give you vouchers to go to a different school where they don’t require these stupid tasks. Governor Lee has done nothing on it so far. We haven’t heard from Lieutenant Governor and State Senate President Randy McNally about what he’s going to do. What are your thoughts on that, Carol?
Swain: First of all, the science that I’ve read coming from other countries and even within the United States does not support masks, especially for children. In fact, masks are doing more harm than protecting our children.
And in the whole United States, I don’t believe more than 300 children have died from COVID out of millions of children. And I’m sure they had co-morbidities. I don’t know why Governor Lee and other governors and mayors across the nation are not actually following the science.
I know for the school boards, follow the teachers’ unions. And the teachers really don’t want to teach. And before you know it we’ll be in lockdown again. And I believe the Democrats are trying to do a replay of the 2020 elections.
This Delta variant, which I understand is more contagious but not more deadly than regular COVID that they’re trying to play it up to manipulate. I’ve even read that there are people asking for another stimulus check.
So the Democrats are going to push this as far as they can. The teachers’ unions, really don’t want to do anything but control people’s lives.
Leahy: They don’t really seem to want to teach kids either.
Swain: No, they’re not teaching kids. Our kids are falling further behind the children in other nations. Minority kids, the Democrats purport to care about falling further behind than they’ve ever been.
It is a disaster. And the CDC cannot be trusted. They conceal information. They don’t do the studies they need to be doing. And so I think that we are at a point in American history where the authorities that we once respected and could be trusted, can no longer be trusted.
And with Governor Lee, I’m disappointed, like most people who follow him closely, that he doesn’t seem to dig in for himself. I don’t know that he actually looks at studies, and he’s obviously being guided by the wrong advisers.
And I think it’s very unfortunate. He is a nice man. He is so likable – but nice and being likable? We need leadership. And he’s not a strong leader.
Leahy: When we come back, see if you can answer this little mystery for me. Friday, President Trump endorsed Governor Bill Lee. Governor Bill Lee is not a conservative. What was Donald Trump thinking? Do you have any clue about that? Just in 20 seconds. Give me a little hint.
Swain: It’s not President Trump’s first mistake.
Leahy: I agree with that. I agree with that. But comparing President Trump’s mistakes to President Biden’s mistake, there’s an order-of-magnitude difference. We’ll talk about that and more when we get back.
